Bas Dost looking for the best series

Home / News / Bas Dost looking for the best series

Although slightly below last season’s performance, which marked his debut in Alvalade and in which he even discussed the Golden Shoe with Lionel Messi [see box attached], Bas Dost currently has 26 goals in the league with the (27 games), the most recent having been scored the day before, in the duel with Boavista, to count for the 31st day.
The goal that ensured the triumph over the checkers, achieved from the eleven meters mark (1-0), allowed the Dutch striker to increase to three the number of consecutive games to successfully target the goal of opponents – in the previous days had marked the Belenenses and Paços de Ferreira – equaling the best sequence achieved this season, with regard to the finalization (in the 13th, 14th and 15th rounds he had also maintained the active scoring vein, as well as between the 9th and the 13th day – see tables above).
The goal now is to overcome this series, which will happen if you add the fourth encounter to play with the networks of the opposing goalposts on the trip to the Algarve to visit Portimonense. That would be the best sequence this season has achieved … and that would have left the 28-year-old Dutch just one match to equalize the best performance since he came to Alvalade: five straight games to score goals (when he was decisive in Belenenses, Feirense, Chaves, Marítimo and Paços de Ferreira, between the 15th and 19th rounds of the League, in the 2016/17 season).

Approaching Jonas

Overwhelmed by the physical problems that have driven him away from four of the league’s 31 games this season, Bas Dost can now seize ground to fight for the league’s best scorer, as isolated leader Jonas has not played due to injury. However, the difference between the two strikers is still significant: Benfica’s Brazilian striker is ahead with 33 goals, while the Green and Whites jersey 28 is second in the standings, with 26 clear shots. Seven goals separate the rivals of the Second Round in the fight for the Silver Ball (Marega, of the dragons, comes in third position with 20 goals).
The fight for the Silver Ball, which the Dutchman won last season, is very difficult, when there are only three matches remaining, Portimonense, Benfica and Marítimo. But nothing he has not already done, since he has already scored any of these opponents (once for the Algarve, once for the eagles and four times for the Madeira), although they are far from being the targets. Let them say Chaves (who has already conceded ten Bas Dost goals), Boavista (seven), SC Braga and Tondela (five each).
