Atlanta United completed the signing of 18-year-old Ezequiel Barco of Independiente de Argentina, sealing the most important transfer in the history of Major League Soccer.
The MLS club did not confirm the details of the deal, but sources told ESPN Argentina last week that the Independent agreed to sell the budding star for $ 15 million, a record for the MLS, plus 30 percent. of any possible future transfer, before December 2019; or 10 percent, in case Atlanta sells Barco after the date.
And Atlanta announced that it completed Barco’s signing as a young designated player during the MLS Super Draft this Friday.
The transfer fee breaks the $ 10 million that Toronto FC paid to Rome for Michael Bradley in 2013. Just a year ago, Atlanta also spent about $ 8.5 million to acquire Paraguayan star Miguel Almirón, from Lanus, another club in Argentina.
